Business Development

Director of Business Development

Remote (Denver-Boulder Metro area) · Regular in-person planning + industry travelFull-time$150,000 – $200,000 USD

OpenC3 is growing as a team and branching into new markets! We're looking for a Director of Business Development to support this growth by building and operating our business development function.

Supported by our CMO and COO / Sales Engineer, you will own the end-to-end business development and sales administration effort at OpenC3. You will create and maintain the business development process, take ownership of building and maintaining the sales pipeline, and personally drive qualified opportunities — becoming the high-touch driver behind the full sales lifecycle.

You will work closely with OpenC3 leadership and engineering stakeholders to plan and execute BD strategies in space, defense, drone, and related markets. You will design, collect, maintain, and communicate the key performance indicators that you will use to judge the effectiveness of BD activities.

As part of a small, remote team, your organizational skills, data-first mindset, and prospecting prowess will help us stay on track with our sales volume and revenue goals. This role executes remotely from the Denver-Boulder Metro area with regular in-person planning meetings and travel to conferences and industry events.

/ RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Create and maintain a robust volume of high-quality sales opportunities that result in year-over-year revenue growth via license and services sales.
  • Drive the sales process from end to end, from cold prospecting through close, engaging sales engineering support as needed.
  • Work with CMO and COO to build out the business development function including long-term strategy, metrics and deliverables, reporting, and execution pathways for the aerospace and drone markets and beyond.
  • Develop and implement a named-account strategy to identify, penetrate, and expand business within must-have accounts.
  • Create and execute 1:1 prospecting campaigns and build scalable, account-based prospecting workflows.
  • Attend and participate in conferences, organizations, networking events, and other client-focused activities inside and outside the aerospace, defense, and drone industries.
  • Work with CMO to coordinate marketing support and validate business development strategy, execution, and KPIs.
  • Develop and maintain industry relationships with potential clients and key players.
  • Provide potential customer, marketplace, and competitor intelligence to CMO and senior leadership to aid in the development of effective prospecting, market targeting, and opportunity capture strategies.
/ REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Communications, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of combined business development and marketing experience, preferably in a B2B software environment or the aerospace industry.
  • Proficiency in CRM (preferably HighLevel), sales engagement, and prospecting tools — including proper use, reporting, and configuration.
  • Excellent writing, presentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter mentality who can identify, prioritize, and manage multiple concurrent opportunities, relationships, and pipelines.
  • Familiarity with multiple sales models and sales qualification methodologies (BANT, MEDDIC, etc.), ideally in an aerospace or B2B SaaS setting.
  • Strong understanding of social media best practices and platform-specific audience engagement.
  • Unrestricted social media accounts (or ability to generate and grow them) for use in business development efforts.
  • Sufficient technical aptitude to understand and convey the basics of OpenC3 COSMOS to target audiences and personas.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to remotely work independently and as part of a team.
/ PREFERRED
  • A proactive mentality that doesn't wait for inbound leads, with a proven track record of inserting yourself into the right conversations and opening doors that others find locked.
  • Ability to hold your own in a room full of aerospace engineers by speaking the language of C2, TT&C systems, and the aerospace hardware lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated growth mindset with a desire to continually improve processes, outcomes, and sales results.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for automation and systemization that improve efficiency without sacrificing quality.
  • Experience leveraging AI to automate workflows or drive operational efficiency while avoiding inaccuracies, mediocre quality, and slop.
  • Comfort working as the primary deal generator with a seven-figure annual revenue target.
  • Experience with aerospace, defense, developer tools, and infrastructure a plus.
