COSMOS 7.4.1 Release: Bridge Foundation Set, New Environment Settings, and Documentation Updates
COSMOS 7.4.1 is live with tons of new enhancements and bug fixes as we continue to improve aerospace’s preferred hardware orchestration platform! There are new improvements to environment variables, more control over settings, groundwork for a Bridge concept to control hardware, and updates to the COSMOS documentation. Also be sure to check out the OpenC3 Store as we have a variety of new additions!
Here’s what to look forward to when upgrading to COSMOS 7.4.1:
Bridge Foundation
The biggest enhancement for COSMOS 7.4.1 is the foundation for an exciting new Bridge concept, designed for direct-to-the-host control of attached hardware through a fully secure network channel. Please note that this is just the first step! We’re excited that the foundation has been laid, but we're not ready to declare this feature complete. Stay tuned for more updates about the Bridge!
Environment Variables
COSMOS 7.4.1 features a cool, new ability to control various settings via the environment variables. This enhancement layers on the new compose.override.yaml support in 7.3.0. Now you can add OPENC3_SETTING_TIME_ZONE=UTC in the openc3-cosmos-init container environment to always start with UTC time (for example).
Telemetry Grapher Updates
A new feature that frequent Telemetry Grapher users will appreciate is the ability to support scatter plot graphs.
Documentation Updates
COSMOS’ already extensive documentation has been improved, especially around string quoting, Grafana roles, start and load_utility, Data Viewer, and migration.
Test Enhancements
There were numerous enhancements to unit tests and Playwright tests in this version. See the COSMOS 7.4.1 release notes for specifics.
Notice: Breaking Changes from 6.x
Containers have been moved to repos.openc3.com. If you want to continue using GitHub (ghcr.io) then you must do the following: export OPENC3_ENTERPRISE_REGISTRY=ghcr.io or add OPENC3_ENTERPRISE_REGISTRY=ghcr.io to your .env.local file.
