COSMOS 7 is a huge leap forward in functionality and extensibility, making COSMOS faster at data retrieval, easier to use with even more Python support, and more flexible with new workflow support. After months of hard work and long hours, OpenC3 is excited to announce the release of COSMOS 7 Release Candidate 1! This release candidate is available for COSMOS Core and Enterprise customers with the goal of being publicly available for all COSMOSnauts in the coming weeks.
More than a routine update, COSMOS 7 enables developers, engineers, businesses, and organizations to leverage COSMOS for mission success in ways never before possible. We don’t want to won’t spoil the full release, but we can’t help ourselves! Here’s a sneak peek at just some of the revolutionary features jam packed into COSMOS 7:
COSMOS 7 comes with an updated license, opening the door for COSMOS users to build their own plugins, free of AGPL licensing restrictions. COSMOS Enterprise is now licensed under the OpenC3 Builder's License, which comes with all of the freedoms of the AGPL license but restricts the use of COSMOS as a service and removes the need to account for virality when extending COSMOS. COSMOS Core remains open source but will also adhere to the OpenC3 Builders License.
To get started with COSMOS RC 1, please head to GitHub and download the latest build here: https://github.com/OpenC3/cosmos-enterprise/releases
This is a release candidate therefore the usual precautions apply: Do not use this on a Production COSMOS system. We would love for you to go through the data migration steps from a COSMOS 6.x to 7.0.0 system including running the TSDB migration plugin. The migration steps should not delete your old MINIO docker volumes so please keep those to preserve old data. Try Telemetry Grapher and Grafana and enjoy significantly faster query and graph times.
COSMOSnauts are some of the most knowledgeable and helpful developers in the industry and we greatly appreciate (and encourage!) your feedback. As issues, bugs, or quirks pop up, please provide feedback via GitHub Issues (Core users) or by reaching out directly to support@openc3.com (Enterprise users). We are particularly interested in any issues ingesting data into QuestDB so keep an eye on those CmdTlmServer logs for QuestDB errors!
A huge “thank you” from the dedicated development team atOpenC3 to all COSMOSnauts for helping make COSMOS 7 the best COSMOS ever and for helping usher in a new dawn of COSMOS success!
And stay tuned to OpenC3’s email announcements (sign up here if you haven’t already! ) and follow our LinkedIn page to be the first to know about the public release of COSMOS 7!
